Pilot

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, and commission HVAC systems (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, condensers, cooling towers, and air distribution systems) for data center environments.

  • Monitor and maintain temperature and humidity within ASHRAE and site-specific standards.

  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC and mechanical systems to ensure 24/7 operational reliability.

  • Support facility upgrades and retrofits to improve energy efficiency and PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness).

  • Perform load calculations, airflow analysis, and thermal modeling to optimize data hall cooling.

  • Troubleshoot and repair system faults, including compressor, fan, and control system issues.

  • Coordinate with electrical and IT teams to align mechanical operations with overall data center infrastructure.

  • Maintain accurate documentation including equipment logs, maintenance reports, and mechanical drawings.

  • Ensure compliance with local codes, ASHRAE standards, and safety regulations.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency support and system failures.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent technical experience).

Experience:

  • 3–7 years of HVAC or mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mission-critical or data center environments.

  • Experience with chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, DX systems, VFDs, and BMS control systems.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of psychrometrics, thermal dynamics, and airflow management.

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE TC 9.9 data center cooling standards.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.

  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), CMMS, and SCADA.

  • Ability to read mechanical schematics and control wiring diagrams.

Certifications (preferred):

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • LEED Accreditation

  • EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification

  • Data Center Operations or Facilities certifications (e.g., Uptime Institute, BICSI, DCPro)

Work Environment:

  • Primarily data center environment with exposure to mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • May involve shift work, on-call rotations, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
